Updated: Aug 6, 2021

Unruly, unmanageable or lifeless hair? Building a good hair care routine can be daunting as there a million and one products out there to choose from. If you're ready to get the healthiest, shiniest hair, here's our beginner's guide on how to start your hair care routine.

Back To Basics

We have devised a list of our staple hair products that every woman should have in their life. The right products make your hair care routine so much easier to maintain.

Shampoo based on your hair type

Conditioner based on your hair type

Heat Protectant

Dry Shampoo

Paddle Brush / Comb

Hair Drier / Diffuser (if you have curly hair)

Hone in On your Hair Type

It all depends on the type, texture, colour and condition of your hair which should determine which shampoo and conditioner you choose.

Fine Hair - Opt for volumising treatments to prevent flat hair and flyaway / stray hairs

Thick Hair - Thicker hair can often lack lustre and bounce. Hydrating treatments are a saving grace for those with thick hair as it holds in moisture

Curly Hair - Textured hair can become frizzy very easily. Curl Defining treatments are a saving grace for those with wavy or curly hair as it can penetrates thicker, coarser hair and holds those waves!

Straight Hair - Smoothing shampoos and conditioners are best used for those with straight hair as this locks in moisture and adds an extra shine to those luscious locks!

Coloured Hair - Look for treatments with extra strengthening properties such as our Repair range as over processed or highlighted hair can become brittle over time and needs a little extra TLC.

Use The Right Amount of Product

How often are you buying shampoo and conditioner? We often think to get a good lather when shampooing that we need to apply more product but it couldn't be more untrue. Think the size of a two pence piece! That's more than enough for your whole head.

Stop Over-Washing!

If you're reading this and thinking "do I wash my hair too much" then you probably are!

The number of times a week you should be washing your hair varies for each person depending on the natural oiliness of your hair in general and how active you are. AKA, if you are a gym bunny, your hair may tend to get greasy every couple of days as you sweat more. Over-washing can strip the oils from your hair and cause flaky scalp. Aim for around three washes per week to avoid over-washing.

Don't Forget, Protect!

Heat protectants add a protective layer between your hair drier / straighteners / curling tongs and your hair, sealing in moisture and fending off frizz. They also help to smooth the cuticle, making your hair look smooth and feel soft. We all know how easy it is to cut corners and forget to take our makeup off before bed, cheat on our diets and forget this all important step. However, not using heat protectant often can lead to those pesky dead ends, brittle hair and damaged locks!

We hope this guide has helped you onto the path to a regular, healthy hair routine!
